What’s new with WordPress 6.0?

Here are the major updates to WordPress 6.0 that have been announced so far.

Site Editor

The site editor was launched during the last major release and greatly enhanced your ability to customize pages and posts. WP 6.0 takes it a step further by adding the Global Style Switcher. This addition will allow users to switch between several global style alternatives. This cuts out the step of having to modify your current interface.

Another addition to the site editor is the ability to select text across multiple blocks. Currently, you can only select entire blocks of text. This update lets you select one paragraph of text, even if it’s broken up between multiple blocks.

Other improvements include block style retaining, which lets you keep your block style when changing to a different block, more template options, and decoupling themes from templates.

Most of the major changes with WordPress 6.0 have to do with the blocks. Here’s what’s new.

New blocks

WP 6.0 offers users access to new blocks such as “post author biography” and “read more.”

Block style Preview

Another blocks update is block style preview, which lets users see a live preview of the content area by hovering over block style options in the design tool.

Block locking UI

While WordPress 5.9 introduced the lock ability, users still needed to modify the code to lock a block. Now, there is a UI in the toolbar to simplify this command.

Featured image expansion

This update allows users to incorporate images into media and text blocks.

Additional transforming options

New transforming options include paragraph to code, group to row, and tag cloud to categories

Nest code

With WordPress 6.0, you will be able to nest blocks and add paragraphs, lists, and code snippets within your quote.

WP 6.0 is adding a pattern directory on its official website.

Design Tools

One of the last major changes to WordPress 6.0 is the customization and expanded support in their design tools. Specifically:

  • Layout transformation for multiple blocks
  • Custom post date formatting
  • Galler block gap spacing
  • Web fonts API
  • Typography support for container blocks

WordPress 6.0 is going to be an excellent update. Be sure to update your WordPress account to the latest version so you can experience all of the new and exciting benefits and features.
