Duplicating Pages and Posts

[Music]
00:06
so on the majority of our sites we have
00:09
a plugin that allows us to completely
00:14
clone or duplicate pages posts sliders
00:19
portfolio items pretty much anything
00:22
that we tell it that we want to have the
00:25
ability to duplicate it’ll let us do
00:28
that so in order to duplicate pages once
00:32
this plug-in is installed if it’s not
00:35
installed it would need to be put on and
00:38
it’s very handy to use it’s called
00:40
duplicate post and once that’s on there
00:44
you can then go to pages or post
00:47
whichever you want to clone go to the
00:51
page that you want to create another
00:54
page based off of this is this is handy
00:57
I actually use this a lot when
00:59
developing because sometimes it’s best
01:03
to kind of start from a template instead
01:06
of having to start fresh
01:09
with something just blank and then you
01:12
have to set up all of the structuring
01:14
that goes with it because what happens
01:16
is sometimes when we import demo content
01:18
into a site to kind of give it a
01:20
template when you create a fresh new
01:24
page it’ll it can take away from that
01:26
that’s styling it can take away the like
01:29
the the width of it the like the the
01:33
title bar at the top just all the stuff
01:35
that goes into styling that page it’ll
01:38
be reset back to the default settings
01:41
and all that stuff will need to be set
01:43
up again so we can do this show you an
01:47
example here so here’s just an example
01:49
page here’s like an example about page
01:55
so we’ve kind of got stuff laid out got
01:57
the title bar stuff really hasn’t been
02:01
built too much on this but this is what
02:03
we have so we’ve got that and then if we
02:06
want to create another page based off of
02:08
this structuring we would go to here
02:11
about or whichever page we
02:13
duplicate coming on here to clone and
02:16
then that will completely clone it and
02:19
set it as a draft so we’ll just let that
02:23
load and now it’s set as draft and this
02:26
is the one that we would want to it’s
02:28
the new one that we want to edit them so
02:30
we come in here and click Edit and then
02:35
we can set up the page how we want it
02:39
and all of this stuff will be in there
02:42
for us to kind of move around
02:44
restructure do what we want with it and
02:47
then once we are finished setting up our
02:50
new page we can just click publish and
02:52
then that will publish the new page so
02:56
what what I mean is when you do this
02:58
instead of creating something fresh is
03:00
because if we go back into this all of
03:05
this would be just blank
03:07
there’d be nothing in there title would
03:10
be empty over here the template this
03:12
would probably be default template which
03:14
isn’t the full width and normally the
03:19
sites that we do most of them are full
03:21
width and then we just kind of structure
03:24
them the way we want them and so if you
03:26
actually started a fresh new page it
03:29
would probably be set to default which
03:31
would then need to be set to full width
03:32
so that’s this is just one example so if
03:36
we keep scrolling down past our content
03:39
there’s other areas like maybe the code
03:43
header this kind of style is a header
03:46
the code title all of this would be
03:48
blank so you’d have to set up all this
03:51
manually just a lot of stuff down here
03:55
that kind of structures the pages of
03:56
where they are you have to come in down
03:58
here and do them all manually so that’s
04:01
kind of why cloning or duplicating is
04:03
the best route to go even if even if
04:06
you’re not going to make a page that’s
04:09
real similar to one you can just still
04:12
you can still clone it remove all of
04:16
this content in here and then start with
04:18
your own and everything else will then
04:20
be structured correctly
04:26
so if we started a fresh new page let’s
04:28
do this I’ll let that load
04:34
so everything’s blank and like I
04:36
mentioned over here this is now a
04:37
default template so we’d have to switch
04:39
this to full width we would have to see
04:43
visual composers not even open by
04:45
default so we’d have to click that start
04:48
fresh you kind of have to build your own
04:51
build your own rows you’d have to build
04:53
your own columns you’d have to setup the
04:55
spacing between the rows and columns
04:58
down here all of this is different like
05:04
this the code titled this would have to
05:05
be set to note well the way this theme
05:07
was set up this was set to no so just a
05:11
lot of stuff is reset and it can take
05:15
twice as long to just set up the basic
05:18
structure of the page and then actually
05:21
get to put move content around in it and
05:24
kind of setup the way you want it so
05:26
that’s kind of why we do the clone page
05:29
feature is it makes building new pages a
05:33
lot smoother and go a lot quicker and
05:36
this also goes along with posts with the
05:40
blog post when you have this plug-in
05:41
installed you can come here click clone
05:44
and then you can clone any of the blog
05:47
posts which also goes with the pages and
05:50
that it sets it up it sets up the pages
05:53
with the correct template you go in
05:55
switch out title switch out text content
05:59
and then you’re good to go you don’t
06:00
have to set up the post structure and
06:04
templates and all that stuff so that is
06:06
all there is to it
