The latest WordPress update is scheduled for release before the end of November 2017. For many of you, the updates won’t mean much but for those of you who like to work on your sites, there are some pretty exciting things in WordPress 4.9.
WordPress 4.9 Feature Updates
Most of the updated features have to do with widgets, though that is not all WordPress 4.9 has to offer.
Create Drafts of Theme Changes in the Customizer
If you want to play around with the look of your theme (colors, headers, etc.), you can now do so and save the results as a draft rather than having to make them live. That way you can share them with others and get feedback before committing to the design. A full preview will appear on your screen when you pull up the draft page.
You can now add a native WordPress Gallery to any widget, allowing you to create beautiful displays on the side or bottom of any page or post. Previously, you had to use third-party plugins or get custom coding for this feature. Anytime, you can accomplish a task using WordPress instead of a third-party plugin, you benefit. There is no chance of incompatibility and updates mirror WordPress updates.
Adding Media to Text in Widgets
The last WordPress update before WordPress 4.9 gave us a text editor for widgets. With this release, you can now add media, just as you would on the page itself. This opens up a lot of options. You could conceivably build a mini-web page in your sidebar using the WYSIWYG editor, but it’s more likely you will create banners, ads, and content boxes with great graphics.
Enhanced Code Editor
This code editor comes with syntax highlighting, code suggestions, and auto-completion. Adding custom CSS will be even easier than before.
