Effective April 21st: Google Favors Mobile-Friendliness

As of April 21, 2015, Google has activated a new part of their algorithm which favors mobile-friendly websites on mobile search results.

Here are the facts:

  • If your website is not deemed “mobile-friendly” by Google, your website will likely be lowered in search engine results on smartphones.
  • Currently, the ranking effect does not have an impact on Google results seen on a computer or tablet.
  • Keep in mind that people also use their smartphones around the house and office – not only when they are out and about.

How do you know if your website is deemed “mobile-friendly” by Google?

Go to the Google Mobile-Friendly Test and enter your full web address.

What do you do about it if you are not “mobile-friendly”?

Frankly, if your website is old and needs to be refreshed anyway, do that. It may be the most cost-effective route also. If your website is relatively new or it just makes more sense to adjust it to be mobile-friendly, contact us and we’ll run a report on your website to see what minimum changes need to be done.

If I fix the issues and become mobile-friendly, – How long for Google to notice?

Very quickly – Likely within a couple days to a week because this is a real-time factor in their algorithm.
